What can go in a skip?
Most household, garden and construction waste is fine. A few things need special handling — and some can't go in at all. Here's the honest, complete list.
Accepted in every skip
General household waste
Furniture, carpets, toys, general clutter, bagged household waste.
Construction & demolition
Bricks, concrete, tiles, rubble, plaster, ceramics.
Garden waste
Soil, turf, plants, grass cuttings, branches, hedge trimmings.
Wood & timber
Pallets, decking, fencing, joists, laminate flooring.
Metals
Radiators, pipes, guttering, white metal (not fridges/freezers).
Mixed renovation waste
The usual mix from refurbs — we sort it at the transfer station.
Accepted with conditions
Plasterboard
Accepted, but must be kept separate from other waste — tell us when booking and we'll advise.
Soil & rubble (heavy loads)
Fine in 4–8 yard skips. Weight limits apply to larger skips — heavy waste in a 12-yarder usually can't be lifted.
Mattresses & upholstered furniture
Usually accepted with a small handling surcharge in some areas — check when booking.
Never allowed in a skip
- Asbestos (any form)
- Fridges, freezers & air-con units
- TVs, monitors & electricals (WEEE)
- Paint, solvents & chemicals
- Gas cylinders & fire extinguishers
- Tyres
- Batteries
- Medical or clinical waste
- Food waste
- Liquids of any kind
